What is a storage device?

It is considered a computer hardware device. These devices are used to store information. And they can be classified as internal or external connected either to a computer, server, or some type of computer device that stores information.

Storage Types

• Primary storage devices.

It is the main storage device, it is located in the area where data is stored quickly by the computer's processor. An example of this device is random access memory (RAM) since it stores programs and informational data of the system, another primary storage device is the processor since part of the actions or data processing requested by the user are housed in it.

   

• Magnetic storage devices.

HDD. It is a device that is responsible for storing and retrieving data using its magnetic mechanism, as we know it is a non-volatile device, that is, it can be deleted or modified n number of times without any problem, most traditional computers bring with them an HDD as they are low cost and tend to bring the general storage of them which is 500GB.

Tape Cassette. Also known by the name music cassette, this device its physical form is a rectangular container where the data is stored inside, recording on an analog magnetic tape, this device is generally used in audio recordings, one of the main advantages is that they are low cost for the material that is produced in the factories, in the popular time of said devices the price of it was less than a dollar.

• Flash memory devices.

USB. Known as a Pendrive, this device can be connected directly to laptops to be able to read and write data on them quickly and efficiently, one of the advantages of this device is that it is portable due to its size, and its storage capacity varies between 1GB to 1TB. One of the disadvantages of USB memories is the privacy of the files that are kept in them, since in case of losing it since anyone can access said information.

SSD. These acronyms have the meaning of Solid State Drive, this device is one of the most popular since it is durable because it does not contain optical discs inside like traditional discs, this device has a relatively lower energy consumption, it is lightweight and writing/reading is 10 times faster than hard drives, the only disadvantage is that their prices are higher due to their efficiency.
